Komen National and Missouri Affiliate History
Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. Since its founding in 1982, Komen has funded more than $800 million in research and provided more than $1.6 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psycho-social support programs serving millions of people in more than 30 countries worldwide. Komen was founded by Nancy G. Brinker, who promised her sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would end the disease that claimed Suzy’s life.
Established in 1999, the Komen Missouri affiliate is proud to have contributed more than $40 million towards breast cancer education, screenings and research. Our army of volunteers ensures a maximum amount of funds goes towards helping Komen reach its goal of a world without breast cancer. We are incredibly proud to have impacted thousands of people over the years through our grant recipients. Hundreds of mammograms, other life saving screenings, educational materials and forums, assistance services, patient navigation services, transportation, support groups are just some of the ways Komen Missouri has made a difference in our 38-county service area. From Mid-Missouri to Southern Illinois, we are dedicated to providing needed services and raising awareness about breast cancer. We’re thankful to live in a community that values contributing to our life saving mission. Thank you for continuing to support Komen Missouri and Komen National’s vision of a world without breast cancer!
